폐수 모니터링 전문업체인 디텍트로닉(Detectronic)은 3월 18일(현지시각) 다중 센서 모니터링 시스템인 LIDoTT®가 영국 최초로 MCERTS 인증을 획득했다고 발표했다. LIDoTT는 EDM(Event Duration Monitoring)을 위한 필수 모니터로, 하수도의 폐수를 밀리미터(㎜) 단위로 측정할 수 있다. 

MCERTS는 영국 환경청(EA)의 모니터링 인증 제도로, 물기업이 품질 요구사항을 충족할 수 있는 프레임워크를 제공한다. MCERTS 인증 시 EA는 환경 배출 및 배출 모니터링에 대한 신뢰를 제고할 수 있다. 

닐 버틀러(Neil Butler) 디텍트로닉 상무는 "MCERTS 인증을 획득한 다른 EDM 수위 모니터는 주전원으로 작동되는 반면, 이 시스템은 배터리로 작동되는 수위 모니터링 장치"라며 "물산업에서 배터리로 작동되는 EDM 수위 모니터링에 대한 인증을 획득한 것은 영국 최초"라고 말했다.

버틀러 상무는 "LIDoTT 시스템은 원격 위치를 포함한 모든 집수 과정에서 EDM에 사용될 수 있다"며 "이는 폐수 모니터링 분야에서 중요한 이정표"라고 강조했다.

EDM의 주요 과제 중 하나는 취수장 내 고립된 지역에 효과적으로 전력을 공급할 수 있는 방법을 찾는 것이다. 영국은 2023년 말까지 모든 CSO에 EDM 모니터를 설치하도록 물기업에 지시했다. 

버틀러는 "이번 개발로 고객 서비스를 향상하게 돼 기쁘다"며 "MCERTS 인증은 LIDoTT에 신뢰성을 더할 뿐 아니라 규제 시장에서의 평판도 향상시킨다"고 덧붙였다.

UK’s first battery powered EDM monitor to gain MCERTS certification

The LIDoTT®, a multi-sensor monitoring system designed and developed by wastewater monitoring specialists, Detectronic, is the UK’s first battery-powered EDM monitor to gain MCERTS certification. This significant achievement demonstrates the LIDoTT’s monitoring performance against the strict standards set out for Event Duration Monitors.

LIDoTT measures wastewater in sewers with millimetric accuracy. This makes it an essential level monitor for Event Duration Monitoring (EDM). Explains Neil Butler, managing director at Detectronic: “The MCerts LIDoTT devices are battery powered level monitoring devices. And this point is key. Every other EDM level monitor that has MCERTS is mains powered. We’re the first company in the water industry to achieve the certification for battery powered EDM level monitors.

“As such, this represents a significant milestone in the field of wastewater monitoring as it means that the LIDoTT system can be used for Event Duration Monitoring (EDM) in all catchments including remote locations.”

Continues Neil: “One of the main challenges with EDM has been figuring out how to effectively get power to isolated or secluded locations within a catchment. The government instructed water companies to have EDM monitors in place at all CSOs by the end of 2023. And from 1st April 2025 any new or replacement EDM must be an MCERTS certified product. Water companies must submit an annual report highlighting the number and duration of every spill event”.

MCERTS is the Monitoring Certification Scheme of the Environment Agencies of England and Wales. Providing the framework for businesses and water companies to meet quality requirements; compliance with MCERTS gives the Environment Agency confidence in the monitoring of emissions and/or discharges into the environment. Achieving MCERTS certification means that LIDoTT meets and exceeds the high standards for data quality required for EDM reporting.

Concludes Neil: “We’re delighted to be able to enhance our client offering with this latest development. Not only does MCERTS certification add another layer of credibility to the LIDoTT, it also enhances Detectronic’s reputation in the regulatory market.”
