라이트소스 BP(Lightsource BP)는 10월 19일(현지시각) 콘웨이(Conway Corp)와 미국 아칸소(Arkansas)주에 135메가와트 규모의 콘웨이 솔라 앳 해피 프로젝트(Conway Solar at Happy Project)를 성공적으로 마무리했다고 발표했다. 이 프로젝트는 아칸소주의 에너지 안보와 자립을 앞당기는 동시에 지역사회와 환경을 위한 구체적인 이익을 창출하는 이번 파트너십의 공유된 목표에 중요한 이정표를 세웠다.

이 태양광 발전소는 라이트소스 BP와의 전력 구매 계약에 따라 콘웨이가 자체 개발한 청정 에너지를 공급할 예정이다. 콘웨이 솔라 프로젝트(Conway Solar Project)는 2만1천 가구에 전력을 공급하기에 충분한 양의 깨끗한 에너지를 생산할 것으로 예상된다.

콘웨이 솔라 프로젝트는 더 신선한 공기를 위해 배출가스가 없는 에너지를 생산할 뿐만 아니라, 지역 내 꽃가루 매개자(Pollinator)에 대한 보존을 강화할 기회를 창출했다. 

라이트소스 BP와 콘웨이는 아칸소 모나크 컨서베이션 파트너십(Arkansas Monarch Conservation Partnership)과 협력해 46종의 아칸소 토종 식물을 보유하고 있는 5에이커 규모의 토종 꽃가루 매개자 정원(Five-acre Native Pollinator Garden)을 태양광 발전소 안에 조성했다. 이 정원은 위험에 처한 제왕나비, 식량 공급을 지원하는 기타 꽃가루 매개자에게 서식지와 꿀을 제공하는 데 중요하다.

콘웨이 솔라 앳 해피(Conway Solar at Happy)는 고객에게 친환경적인 서비스를 제공하겠다는 콘웨이의 추가적인 목표 달성을 지지함으로써 콘웨이가 연간 16만2천800미터톤의 탄소 배출량을 줄이도록 지원한다. 이는 3만5천400대의 연료를 연소하는 자동차를 도로에서 없애는 것과 동일한 효과를 낸다.

태양광 프로젝트는 건설 기간 동안 300개의 일자리를 창출해 지역 내 경제 성장을 촉진한다. 

이 프로젝트는 퍼스트 솔라(First Solar)의 29만5천 개의 태양광 모듈, 어레이 테크놀로지(Array Technologies)의 스마트 태양광 트랙커(Smart Solar Trackers), 아탈라 스틸(Attala Steel)의 철강을 사용한다.

CONWAY, Arkansas— Lightsource bp and Conway Corp today celebrated the successful completion of the 135-megawatt Conway Solar at Happy project in White County, Arkansas. The occasion marks a significant milestone in the partnership’s shared vision of advancing Arkansas’s energy security and independence, while creating tangible benefits for the local community and environment.

The solar farm will deliver home-grown, clean energy to Conway Corp under a power purchase agreement with Lightsource bp. Conway Solar is projected to generate enough clean energy to power 21,000 homes.

Lightsource bp developed, financed, constructed, and will operate the project, a $125 million private capital investment in new energy infrastructure for Arkansas.

Project creates benefits for people and the planet

The Conway Solar project not only generates emissions-free energy for healthier air but has created an opportunity to advance pollinator conservation in the area. Working with the Arkansas Monarch Conservation Partnership, Lightsource bp and Conway Corp have established a five-acre native pollinator garden within the solar farm, featuring 46 varieties of Arkansas native plants. This garden is crucial in providing habitat and nectar for at-risk monarch butterflies and other pollinators that support our food supply.

Healthier air: Conway Solar at Happy supports Conway Corp’s further commitment to providing environmentally-sound service to their customers, enabling Conway Corp to abate 162,800 metric tons of CO2 emissions annually1. That’s equivalent to taking 35,400 fuel-burning cars off the road for healthier air.

Economic Growth: The solar project generated 300 jobs during construction, fostering economic growth within the region.

Supporting domestic manufacturers: The project uses of 295,000 solar modules from Arizona-based First Solar, smart solar trackers from New Mexico-based Array Technologies, and steel from Attala Steel in Mississippi.
