[독일] 사토리우스, 푸에르토리코서 멤브레인 제조시설 확장
독일의 화학회사인 사토리우스(Sartorius)는 1억 달러 이상의 투자금을 들여 푸에르토리코 요코(Yauco)에서 확장된 제조업을 시작했다.
사토리우스(Sartorius)는 3년에 걸쳐 요코에 공장을 대폭 증설하여 생화학제품 제조를 위한 멤브레인 필터와 일회용 백의 생산능력을 두 배 이상 늘렸다.
사토리우스가 필터막 제조를 위해 독일 괴팅겐(Gottingen)에 있는 본사 밖에서 상당한 용량을 만든 것은 이번이 처음이다.
현재 요코의 사토리우스에는 500명 이상의 사람들이 일하고 있다.
19만 평방미터(㎡)의 요코 부지는 장기적인 성장을 위해 설계되었으며, 사토리우스는 필요에 따라 제조 능력을 최소한 두 배로 늘릴 수 있을 것으로 예상된다.
사토리우스는 1982년부터 요코에서 필터를 제조하고 있으며, 2012년부터는 살균된 일회용 백을 제조하고 있다. 미국 시장은 주로 요코 사이트에서 공급된다.
사토리우스 이사회 의장 겸 CEO인 요아힘 크뢰즈버그(Joachim Kreuzburg)는 "운영적이고 전략적으로 이러한 확장은 우리에게 중요한 투자"라면서 "그 결과 상당히 높은 생산 능력을 갖게 된 지금 우리는 이 지역에서부터 미국 고객들에게 직접 훨씬 더 넓은 제품군을 전달하고 아메리카에서 우리의 야심찬 성장 계획을 실행할 수 있는 여지를 갖게 되었다"고 말했다.
요아힘 크뢰즈버그(Joachim Kreuzburg)는 이어 "푸에르토리코는 기업하기 좋은 환경과 유리한 투자환경을 제공하는 것으로 두드러진다. 그러나 우리에게 더욱 중요한 것은 35년 이상 동안 우수한 제품 품질과 납품 기한 준수를 보장하는 유능하고 신뢰할 수 있는 직원들로 이루어진 팀을 구성했다는 것이다"라고 덧붙였다.

Sartorius expands manufacturing operations in Puerto Rico
Sartorius has started up its expanded manufacturing operations in Yauco, Puerto Rico, after an investment of more than US$100 million.
Over a three-year construction period, the German company has substantially extended its plant in Yauco, more than doubling production capacity of membrane filters and single-use bags for biopharmaceutical manufacture.
This is the first time that Sartorius has created substantial capacity outside its headquarters in Gottingen, Germany for the manufacturing of filter membrane.
Currently, more than 500 people work at Sartorius in Yauco.
The 190,000 sqm Yauco site is designed for further long-term growth, and Sartorius will be able to at least double its manufacturing capacity as needed.
Sartorius has been manufacturing filters in Yauco since 1982, and sterile single-use bags since 2012. The US market is primarily supplied from the Yauco site.
“Operationally and strategically, this expansion is an important investment for us,” said Sartorius executive board chairman and CEO Joachim Kreuzburg. “The considerably higher production capacities created as a result now give us leeway to deliver an even wider product array directly from the region to our American customers and to implement our ambitious growth plans in the Americas.”
“Puerto Rico stands out as offering a business-friendly environment and a favourable investment climate. Yet what is even more important for us is that for more than 35 years, we have had a team of capable and reliable staff in place, who ensure excellent product quality and delivery deadline compliance,” added Kreuzburg.
