[미국] 수에즈, 물재이용 프로젝트로 매년 3억갤런 지하수 절약
미국 뉴욕주 롱아일랜드에 있는 나소 카운티(Nassau County)는 소중하지만 유한한 수자원을 보호하기 위한 공동 노력의 일환으로 수에즈(SUEZ)와 나소 카운티(Nassau County) 원토(Wantagh)에 있는 시더 크릭 워터 리플렉션 처리장(Cedar Creek Water Replementation Factory)에서 나소 카운티의 최신 물 재사용 시스템을 완료했으며, 이제 처리장 운영으로 처리된 하·폐수를 재사용할 수 있게 된다.
수에즈(SUEZ)는 미국 내 최대의 상하수도 서비스인 민간 파트너십인 낫소 카운티(Nassau County)의 하·폐수 처리 시스템을 운영 및 관리한다. 2019년 7월에 완공된 이 프로젝트는 SUEZ가 전액 지불한 약 110만 달러의 비용이 든다.

기술, 혁신 및 구상
시스템에서 처리된 유출수를 재사용함으로써, 시더 크릭 워터 리플렉션 처리장(Cedar Creek Water Replementation Factory)은 매년 3억 갤런의 지하수를 보존할 수 있다. 처리장에서는 공정 냉각수 및 장비와 탱크의 세척과 같이 비 음료용으로 분당 약 600갤런의 지하수를 사용했다.
물 재사용 시스템은 스크리닝 된 식물 유출 물 시스템에서 물을 취하여 염소 처리 및 자외선 (UV) 살균을 사용하여 고형물 제거 및 높은 수준의 다중 장벽 소독을 처리한다.
수에즈(SUEZ)는 2015년 1월 나소 카운티(Nassau County) 하수도 시스템을 공공-민간 파트너십을 통해 운영 및 유지하기 시작했다.

SUEZ Water Reuse Project To Save Up To 300 Million Gallons Of Groundwater Annually
Wantagh, NY (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) - In a joint effort to protect Nassau County’s precious but finite water resources, SUEZ and Nassau County have completed the County’s newest water reuse system at the Cedar Creek Water Reclamation Facility in Wantagh that will now allow for the reuse of treated wastewater in the plant’s operation.
SUEZ operates and manages Nassau County’s wastewater system, which is the largest public-private partnership for water and wastewater services in the United States. The project, completed in July 2019, cost approximately $1.1 million, paid entirely by SUEZ.

Technology, Innovation and Initiative
By reusing treated plant effluent, the Cedar Creek plant will preserve up to 300 million gallons of groundwater each year. The plant has traditionally used about 600 gallons of groundwater per minute for non-potable uses, such as process cooling water and washing down equipment and tanks.
The water reuse system takes water from the screened plant effluent system and treats it for solids removal and for high-level, multiple-barrier disinfection using chlorination and ultraviolet (UV) disinfection.
SUEZ began operating and maintaining the Nassau County Sewer System under a public-private partnership in January 2015. Since then, SUEZ has received high marks from environmental groups and non-governmental organizations, including the Western Bays Coalition of environmental groups, Citizens Campaign for the Environment, the National Council for Public-Private Partnerships, and the New York League of Conservation Voters.
